Lesson 2 | How Do We Arc?

The Discourse Module

You are going to need to know how to use the Discourse module in order to build your arcs, so let’s run through a quick tour.

Creating a New Arc

For this course, assignment pages will have the Discourse module embedded and set up for you to begin building your arc. But when creating arcs outside of this course in Biblearc TOOLS, follow these steps to begin:
  1. Open a project or create a new one. Do so via the main menu.
  2. Create a new module. Click the gray + icon whenever you want to add a module. Then, select Arc and choose a passage and text(s).

Building Your Arc

Understand editing mode.

When you want to make changes to your arc, toggle Editing on. You may also use the spacebar as a shortcut for toggling in and out of editing mode.

Adjust how Bible versions are displayed.

Click the passage reference at the top of the module to add, remove, and hide Bible versions. Use the column dots to adjust their width.

Split propositions.

Click on a word to have it begin a new proposition. Click an X on the left to rejoin two propositions.

Draw arcs and indicate relationships.

Click where you would like the arc to begin and end. Indicate a relationship by clicking an arc’s “handle.” Click the double arrow to switch the order of a relationship.

Know when you are done.

You know you have indicated all necessary relationships when (1) you have an arc over the entire passage, and (2) no “handles” appear when in editing mode.

Use dot notes.

Record insights and questions as you arc by using the round + button that appears next to the Editing toggle when in Editing mode.
