Lesson 4 | Commas & Conjunctions
Review
Conjunctions are at the heart of dividing and connecting.
Taking time to master them will add accuracy and joy to your interpretation!
What we learned this lesson
While you should not fully rely upon punctuation when breaking a passage up into propositions, you can use it as “training wheels” while you learn.
Conjunctions are a central component in determining the flow of thought in a passage, and a central element of proper interpretation. Therefore, they can make or break your theology.
How conjunctions work:
Conjunctions can connect single words and phrases, or larger grammatical units starting with propositions.
Conjunctions are usually placed in between the pieces that they are connecting, but they can also come before the first piece or before both pieces.
Conjunctions each have their own semantic range; they can also connote a logical relationship other than their simple usage.
Some conjunctions can also function as other parts of speech.
