Lesson 1 | The First Pass: Divide
Using the Phrasing Module
Now, let’s give you a chance to play around with the phrasing module so you can learn well how to use it. Here is a practice area using the same verse we just went through in the previous step. Feel free to divide the verse further, remove divisions, move the phrases around, and experiment.
Make sure you try all of the following.
1. Toggle in and out of Editing mode
When you want to make changes to your phrase, toggle the Editing button on from the module’s menu bar. You may also use the spacebar as a shortcut for toggling in and out of editing mode when the module is selected (indicated by a yellow line on top).
2. Divide and rejoin phrases
While in Editing mode, hold down the command (iOS) or Ctrl (Windows, Chromebook) key and move you mouse over the text. You will see a red slash indicating the division spot. Click on the word where you want to start a new phrase.
On a touch device, tap the word where you want to start a new phrase (while in Editing mode) and select the “Break into a new line” option. Then, click “Do this more” from the prompt at the bottom of the screen to quickly make several breaks in a row.
Grab a phrase’s handle and drag it up to rejoin it to the previous phrase.
3. Indent phrases
While in Editing mode, drag phrase handles to the left or right to show subordination or parallelism.
If you ever are unsure how to do something in the Phrasing module, click/tap on the passage reference button to see the module options and select “Take a Tour” under the Actions section.
