Lesson 2 | Coordinate relationships

Assignment: Bracket a list

Create a bracket of 2 Timothy 3:1-5 below.

  1. Break-up the bracket of 2 Timothy 3:1-5 into pieces. In addition to dividing off each verbal thought, also divide off each element of the list in verses 2-4.
  2. Draw brackets and indicate relationships the best you can.
  3. Add a couple of dot notes explaining the key choices you made in this bracket.

Hints

  • While we typically only want to break a passage down into verbal propositions, it can at times be helpful to divide up a list. Doing so forces us to ask questions about possible groupings and ordering within the list.
  • This bracket includes some logical relationships which we have not yet covered. There is an Idea-Explanation in verse 1. There is a Positive-Negative in verse 4. There is a Concessive in verse 5. 2-4 and 5a-b may be connected with Idea-Explanation. 1 and 2a-5b are connected with Ground.
  • You know you have finished with brackets and labels when you have a bracket over the entire passage, and no brackets are gray while in Editing mode.

When you are finished, continue to the next step and submit the lesson. After you do so, the instructor's work will be available for you to review while you wait for your coach to give you feedback (typically within 3-5 days).
