Review
We all need support!
Let’s review the Support by Restatement relationships.
What we learned this lesson
Restatement relationships contain a main point and supporting point.
The main point is not always your favorite point.
The main point is not always the most important point.
The main point is the proposition that logically supports another.
Support by Restatement relationships
Action-Manner is an action and the way or manner in which the action is carried out.
Comparison is an idea and a piece indicating what that idea is like.
Negative-Positive is where one piece is denied while the other is affirmed, or where both pieces contrast each other.
Question-Answer is the statement of a question and the answer to that question.
Idea-Explanation is an idea and another clarifying its meaning.
Clarifying details help us distinguish relationships.
Alternative vs. Negative-Positive:
Alternative presents two options.
Conversely, Negative-Positive denies one thing and affirms the other, or stresses one as good and the other as bad.
Rhetorical Questions should be paraphrased as statements and in this way related to the rest of the passage.
