Lesson 1 | The Main Point

Preaching God's Word to others is a dangerous duty.

May the Lord use this course to help you do that well.

What we learned this lesson

1. The aim of this course is to help you turn an arc, bracket, or phrase into a teaching.
2. To get our teaching right, we first need to get the text right, which means correctly identifying and understanding the passage's main point so that we have confidence we are teaching what God means.
3. You can wow your hearers, but if you have not preached the Word, then you have failed.
4. Remember that to teach is to play with fire.
5. So always remember to let a text land on you personally before you teach it to others.
6. And always rejoice in the gifts God has given your fellow teachers, rather than committing the sin of jealousy.
7. Learning Greek and Hebrew isn't necessary to properly teach the Bible, but they are certainly worth learning.
8. Your first priority as a teacher must be teaching your family.
