Lesson 2 | Teaching With Authority
Pressing questions
What is the purpose of asking questions in a Bible study?
When should you, as the small group Bible study teacher, ask questions? And with what purpose? Their proper function can be summarized in five categories.
To capture attention.
To prompt thinking as you lead the group to the meaning of the text.
To gauge understanding.
To allow your hearers to challenge your interpretation (from the Bible).
To encourage the discussion of how the text intersects with our lives.
The key points from Lesson 2
Small groups provide an opportunity that does not exist in a sermon or seminar; that is, participation.
We are to teach faithful, and not subjective, interpretations.
