Lesson 3 | The Big Context

The message of the Bible

The question

Before we can presume to formally teach any part of the Bible, we must be able to answer the question, “What is the Bible about?” If you cannot answer this question and do it concisely, you cannot faithfully teach any passage of Scripture.

Creator God sent his Son to die for sin and grant righteousness. He will soon return as eternal King, for God's glory.
Now, if we move beyond the 140 character limit, one place I like to go is Psalm 24. Of course there are many other texts which address what the Bible is all about, but perhaps this is one you have never considered along these lines. The psalm, like many of the great hymns we are familiar with, is broken up into three stanzas, each focussing on a different central reality in God's revelation. These are the sort of realities which form our most basic worldview. Mess with one of these, and the damage to one's doctrine becomes overwhelming.

That is what the Bible is all about!
