Lesson 2 | The Context of Cfs
Refers Back Cf Context
For refers-back-type cross-references, you should explore their context until you know what is going on…more or less.
The more-or-less language is important because this type of cross-reference, like parallel passages, can easily send you off into a very lengthy excursion, to the neglect of your passage of study.
But that just won’t work. We certainly want to be familiar with every book and chapter of the Bible so we can fully understand how they interconnect, but we don’t achieve that best by continuously abandoning one place for another.
There is much more to say about exploring the context of this type of cross-reference. So much so that we have dedicated the final lesson of this course to discussing it in depth. Until then, when you meet this type of cross-reference, simply get your bearings and then continue on in the study of your focus passage.
