Who needs grammar? You do! That is, if you want to accurately and thoroughly understand the Bible sitting in front of you. For, language is much more than individual words. It’s words being put together with other words in logical patterns to create meaning. 

While using grammar to parse sentences is not a Bible study method in and of itself, it is a foundational skill that you need in Bible study. Consider the Bible study methods we teach at Biblearc. Phrasing requires you to identify types of phrases in the text in order to break up a passage and relate its pieces. Arcing and Bracketing require you to find subject-verb clauses and understand how such clauses (or “propositions”) fit together, noting conditional sentences, conjunctions, relative clauses, and more. 

And while we will be studying English grammar in this course, don’t discount its usefulness in learning Biblical Hebrew or Koine Greek. The vast majority of what you discover here will cross over to the study of these two languages as well.

In this six-week crash course in English grammar, students will learn how to parse and diagram English sentences. We will start with the most basic two-word sentences and advance to the most complex. You will learn the skill of sentence diagramming (using Biblearc’s Diagramming tool) and become fully equipped to handle the grammatical concepts referenced in Phrasing, Bracketing, and Arcing.
