Lesson 9 | Vocab
New Vocabulary
Now it is time to learn the vocabulary words for Lesson 9. For this lesson, you will learn 30 new words: 14 of the most common adjectives in the Greek NT, four of the most common adverbs, four second pattern nouns (three of these are people’s names), three connectors, four verbs, and one feminine noun that follows the second noun pattern (ὁδός, οῦ, ἡ).
You will notice that each adjective has three forms. Adjectives, like the article, match the noun they are describing in case, gender, and number. Thus, adjectives (unlike nouns) change their gender depending on which noun they describe. For each adjective, the first form provides you with the masculine form, the second form is the feminine form, and the third form is the neuter form. The numbers between parentheses tell you which noun pattern each form follows. For adverbs, there is only one form on the card because adverbs do not change their form.
Like Greek nouns, Greek verbs also change their form. We will memorize Greek verbs in a specific form (Present Active Indicative First Person Singular). For example, ἔχω means “I have.”
