Lesson 8 | Third Noun Pattern
Assignment (Part 2)
Find and parse the third pattern nouns.
Look through the nouns of John 1:1–18 (highlighted grey) and determine which are third pattern. You do not need to translate these verses, just figure out which are third pattern nouns. Then, change their highlight color to yellow. (Reminder: You do so by toggling on the Editing button, clicking on the Text tab, and then the Highlight button.) Next, copy or write each third pattern noun from the phrasing module and paste it into the Notes tab. (Open the Notes tab by clicking the up arrow button.)
Finally, parse the noun. Remember to include its case, gender, number, and lexical form. (Some will be tricky since you haven’t yet learned them, so you will need to think carefully. For example, what case could τὸ φῶς be in given the article? How does that help you see what noun pattern it is?)
You already know over half the third pattern nouns in John 1:1–18, and the rest you’ll be able to identify if you know the third noun pattern chart and use the list of stems and examples from this step. v. 30 ἀνὴρ - nominative, masculine, singular from ἀνήρ
