Side Note: Two Ways to Provide Definitions for Verbs
You may have noticed that if you click on a Greek verb in Biblearc, the English definition is given as an infinitive. E.g. The definition of σῴζω is “to save, heal.” This is one common way Greek lexicons (dictionaries) choose to format their entries. However, in your vocabulary lists, we provide the English definition representing the inflected form. Thus, for σῴζω, we give the definition, “I save; I heal,” since the –ω ending on σῴζω tells us the subject of the verb is 1st person, singular, “I.”
Both forms have value and we will use them both in the course. For now, it is important for you to see the difference and know that we will always provide the inflected form for your vocabulary.
So now exercise your memory in review of the vocab from Greek I. You can do so either here, on Quizlet’s website (by clicking on “View this flashcard set” in the Quizlet below), within the Quizlet app, or using physical flashcards that you have made.
