Lesson 9 | Vocab

Moving into Intermediate Greek

Now that you’ve nearly finished our Greek courses at Biblearc, we hope that you're excited to keep moving forward on your journey of exploring God’s Word in Greek!
Here are two types of resources to help you along this lifelong pathway.

Commentaries

There are some excellent commentary series that will be much more accessible to you with some knowledge of Greek, including:
Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament
This is a newer series, with the major strength of following the structure of the passage, including a phrase of each section.
New International Greek Testament Commentary
This series engages in detailed exegetical work, and will be extremely valuable if you want to study a book with attention to every detail of the text.
You’ll also enjoy other commentary series that aren’t as advanced, but which are still excellent, like Pillar and the New International Commentary on the New Testament series.

Intermediate Grammars

We have previously referenced Wallace's Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics, which will take you deep into issues of grammar and syntax. It is excellent, but is more of a reference book than a book to read through and study. For that aim, Going Deeper with New Testament Greek is a better option. It also reflects recent developments in the understanding of Greek since Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics was written.
Each chapter takes you deeper into an aspect of Greek you have already learned, like the genitive case or participles, and concludes with helpful charts to summarize what was taught, practice translation exercises, vocabulary to memorize, and a section of the New Testament to read with parsing and interpretive helps underneath.
Watch Dr. Plummer introduce the sections of the book in the video below.
