Lesson 10 | Odds & Ends, Part 2
Assignment: Build a Habit
Begin to build a habit by reading and translating Mark 1:1–11, one verse per day over the next eleven days.
Preparation: Create a new project and add a phrase and diagram to it, each loaded with the Greek text ("Heb+Grk") of Mark 1.
Use the following daily routine with each verse. Do not do more than one verse per day and then take several days off. If you miss one or two days, that’s okay—keep going. The goal is to build a consistent habit.
Identify the next verse in the passage—verse 1 on day 1, verse 2 on day 2, etc.
Read the verse aloud. (Do not stop to look up words or parsings you do not know.)
Read it again silently, noting any vocabulary or parsings you do not recognize.
Add this verse to your phrase, diagram, and translation. (Use a single Notes tab for all your verse translations.)
Read aloud the entire passage up through that day’s verse.
When you have completed the eleven-day assignment, add your phrase and diagram to the Notes tab containing your translation. Do so by placing your cursor in the Notes tab at the desired spot and clicking the button to add a study module. (The icon looks like a document with a plus symbol.) Click the "Choose a Module" button to find your phrase. Repeat this process for your diagram. Finally, click the Notes tab label and select “Share” and then “Copy link.” This is the link you will paste in the box below.
When you have completed the eleven-day assignment, paste a link below to your shared Notes tab that includes your phrase, diagram, and translation.
Log in / create an account to enroll or continue where you left off.
Note: We had you load all of Mark 1, not just verses 1–11. The purpose of doing that was to encourage you to keep going in this habit beyond the assignment.
Warning: You will notice that we have not included a “Helps” section for this assignment. We decided to leave this out so as to further prepare you for beyond this course. The key is to not get stuck. Try to figure out how to handle the difficult word or phrase by asking a friend who knows Greek better or consulting a Greek grammar. If that does not work, just do what you can and move forward.
