Reading Scripture Like a Detective

You will be assigned a coach to give you personal feedback on your assignments. To opt-out of coaching, reply to the introductory email you will receive from your coach after enrolling.

Successful completion of Greek III, or equivalent. (See the Course Objectives here.)

This course is composed of ten lessons, with each lesson ending in an assignment. A single Vocab lesson will take the average student 5-6 hours to complete, and a single Grammar lesson 7-8 hours. Students are invited to progress at their own pace. Your coach will inquire as to your intended pace shortly after you begin and help keep you accountable to stay on schedule.

Path courses all end with an assessment to determine your grasp of the skills learned and material covered. Successfully passing an assessment requires a high degree of understanding and is meant to serve as a motivation to take your study seriously as well as a catalyst to improve the standard of Bible study in the Biblearc community.

Students who successfully complete the course and pass the assessment will earn Biblearc’s Greek IV Certificate (see sample). If you do not pass an assessment, you may retry after one week’s time.

This course series equips students with the ability to read and understand the NT in Koine Greek, its original language. Greek II covers non-indicative finite verbs in particular, with an emphasis on reading the text, understanding the fundamentals, and learning the vocabulary—so as to empower students to better know and teach the NT. Above all, this course series seeks to magnify Jesus through reading the NT in its original language.

Before we get into the first non-indicative mood in this lesson, let’s take a step back and review indicative verbs and verbals from Greek II and III. If you didn’t take those courses but have studied Greek elsewhere, this will help you see if you are ready to jump into Greek IV or if you should do some further review.

If you have not previously set up your computer for typing in Greek, you will need to install the Greek keyboard on your computer. Here are instructions for Windows and Mac.

Translate into Greek. (Write only the Greek verb. Do not include accents, breathing marks, or pronouns.)
