This lesson focused on third pattern nouns. The Third Noun Pattern is the last and most difficult noun pattern to learn. We focused on learning tools that will help you parse third pattern nouns when you encounter them in the text. Specifically, we learned:
1. The Third Noun Pattern tools
  1. The paradigm
b. The rules
  1. Scheming σ

ii. Timid τ often changes the stem of neuter nominative and accusative singular forms.
iii. The Second Noun Pattern rules for neuter nouns still apply.
  • Neuter nominative and accusative forms are identical.
  • The neuter genitive and dative forms are the same as the masculine forms.
c. The genitive singular form
  • Memorizing this will provide you with a third pattern noun’s unaltered stem (eg. πνεῦμα, πνεῦματος, τό).
d. The article
  • Look for the article to help you parse difficult third pattern nouns.
