Lesson 10 | Infinitives

Guided Practice 1: Mark 12:1

Now, it is time to practice what we learned in this lesson. The first five practice exercises increase in difficulty and length as you move from one to the next. Then, numbers six to eight add sentences that contain preposition + infinitive constructions. Remember to take time to go through the five-step translation process for each exercise. You will diagram and translate adverbial infinitives in part 5 (extras). When you do this, identify the infinitive first and then identify whether it has a distinct subject (remember, infinitive subjects are in the accusative case), a direct object, and then any other modifiers (like a prepositional phrase).
  1. Read the text aloud
  2. Diagram and translate the text by using our 5-step process
  3. Clauses: Divide the text into clauses
  4. Main Verb: Identify the main verb
  5. Subject: Identify the verb’s subject
  6. Object: Identify the verb’s object (or predicate nominative)
  7. Extras: Identify and diagram the remaining parts
  8. Watch the video to check your work.
