Lesson 2 | Vocab

Song: יְרוּשָׁלַםִ הָרִים סָבִיב לָהּ

If this were a language class for a modern language, we would now be introducing our first conversation: “Hi, how are you? My name is…” But since we are interested in learning to read an ancient language of the Bible, our first words will quite different!
The video below contains our first worship song. The lyrics are Psalm 125:2.
Listen to the song a few times. Your goal is to get the song in your head and your heart, and as a result learn to pronounce and understand the words you are singing. (You’ve already learned each word in the New Vocabulary step of this lesson!) Some of them will look different at their beginning and ending, like לעמו instead of עם, and מעתה instead of עתה. But don’t worry about that—you’ll understand why later in this course.
Now that you’ve heard the song, it’s your turn to pronounce the words. But don’t start pulling out your hair—we won’t ask you to sing the song!
You haven’t learned the vowels yet, but you do know the consonants, and you have the audio of the song above. Once you’ve listened to the song a couple of times, record yourself saying the words out loud in the audio component below.

Read Psalm 125:2 out loud in Hebrew.
