Lesson 6 | Vocab: Pronouns

75% of the Bible

Have you ever seen Crossway’s six-volume Reader’s Bible? Several years ago, when it first came out, I (Brent) bought it, and enjoyed reading through it with its creamy pages, well-spaced and well-sized font, and its overall lovely design.
But one thing shocked me: how much space the Old Testament took up! Look at the size and number of volumes for the OT on the left, compared to the NT on the right:
The Old Testament, in fact, makes up about 75% of the Bible!
Yet does it take up 75% percent of your Bible reading? If you’re a pastor, does it make up 75% of your preaching? I’m not saying it ought to take up that much: the Gospels reveal Christ so clearly, and the epistles give much vital guidance for church life. But shouldn’t we pay more attention to the Old Testament than we do?
We pray that studying Hebrew in this course will help you focus on the beauty, the truth, and the power of the Old Testament in your Christian life.
