[3] In the Songs We’ve Learned
We’ve seen numerous examples of prefixes in each song so far! Let’s run through them and translate.
לָהּ – Here, the prefix preposition is connected to a pronoun suffix (“to her”). You will learn more about this in Lesson 9.
סָבִיב לְעַמּוֹ – “round about to his people” (or more simply “surround his people”)
הַבָּא – “the one who comes”
בְּשֵׁם – “in the name” (more on why it is “the” name in Lesson 9)
מִבֵּית – “from [the] house“ (again, you will learn why it is “the” house in Lesson 9)
וְשִׁמְךָ – “and your name”
לְעוֹלָם – “unto eternity”
וַיִּתֵּן - “And he has put”
לֵאלֹהֵינוּ - “to our God”
וְיִירָאוּ – “and they will fear”
וְיִבְטְחוּ – “and will trust”
וְזִמְרָת – “and [my] song”
וַיְהִי … לִישׁוּעָה – “and he has been … unto salvation” (or more simply “and he has become … salvation”
לִי – “to me” (or simply “my”)
