[4] In the Songs We’ve Learned

Pronoun suffixes and construct chains are everywhere in the Hebrew Bible, and we have we seen many of them in the songs we have learned to this point. Reread through the verses for these songs, trying to spot as many suffixes and construct forms as you can. Then review the list below each verse to note the ones you missed.

לָהּ - “to her"
לְעַמּוֹ - “to his people”

כָל־הַיּוֹם — “all of the day”
וְשִׁמְךָ — “and your name”

בְּפִי - “in my mouth”
לֵאלֹהֵינוּ - “to our God”

יְשׁוּעָתִי - “my salvation”
עָזִּי - “my strength”
לִי – “to me
מִמַּעַיְנֵי הַיְשׁוּעָה – “from the springs of salvation”

כָּל־הָאָרֶץ - “all of the earth”
לְפָנָיו - “into his presence”
הוּא־עָשָׂנוּ - “he made us"
עַמּוֹ וְצֹאן מַרְעִיתוֹ - “[we are] his people and the flock of his pasture”
שְׁעָרָיו - “his gates”
חֲצֵרֹתָיו - “his courts”
הוֹדוּ־לוֹ בָּרֲכוּ שְׁמוֹ - “be thankful to him; bless his name”
חַסְדּוֹ - “his steadfast love”
אֱמוּנָתוֹ - “his faithfulness”

שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת - “The song of stairs”
שִׁיבַת צִיּוֹן - “The restoration of Zion”
פִּינוּ וּלְשׁוֹנֵנוּ - “our mouth and our tongue”
עִמָּנוּ - “with us"
