New Vocabulary

Now it is time to learn the vocabulary words for Lesson 1. You will learn 27 new words: 10 nouns, two verbs, one adverb, and one particle, as well as 13 numbers. Watch for cognates next to each other to aid your memory, and practice saying the words as you study them.

This specific form is only used of God. Notice the missing cholem vav, and the addition of the patach and yod. (It is actually the plural form, just like אֱלֹהִים, with a 1cs suffix.)
אֱדֹם
Edom (noun)
Only the vowels distinguish this word from אָדָם. Be careful!
אָדָם
man, mankind (noun)
אֲדָמָה
ground, land (noun)
Closely related to the noun for “man.” Makes sense, since God made Adam from the ground.
חָטָא
miss, go wrong, sin (verb)
חַטָּאָה
sin, sin-offering (noun)

Jacob (noun)
לֵב / לֵבָב
heart, mind (noun)
This word has two different forms.
