Lesson 6 | About Verbs

Song: הַלְלוּ אֶת־יְהֹוָה

Psalm 117 is the shortest psalm in the psalter, but is rich with truth that should lead us to worship! For it is not just God’s Old Covenant people, but “all peoples,” that should praise Yahweh for his steadfast love toward his chosen. Whether Jew or Gentile, lift up your voice with the singers in the video to praise God for his faithfulness toward us in Christ.
You know most of the words in the song, but there are some that appear fewer than 100 times in the תנ״ך and so have not been in your vocab. Click through them in the box below to get a sense of their meaning. Then listen to the song again.

In the next step, you’ll get some practice translating verbs. But let’s begin here by translating the verbs in Psalm 117, highlighted in the text above, even though you already saw the translations in the video’s captions. (Baby steps!)
You can do so by clicking on the verbs and reading the gloss and parsing information. The aspect, person, gender, and number will all be important for translating. (The stem is important too, but not something you need to worry about just yet.) Translate imperatives as commands.

Translate הַֽלְל֣וּ (don’t transliterate it):
