The context of this passage is that Yahweh has told Elijah to show himself to King Ahab, and that he will end the drought on Israel by sending rain. Obadiah, Ahab’s servant who fears God, encounters Elijah while searching for him with Ahab. Elijah tells Obadiah to tell Ahab that Elijah is here, and Obadiah objects in verses 12–14.
