Lesson 6 | Commands
Review
Given that God is our Lord, this is a huge feat to now be able to read in Hebrew what he commands!
What we learned this lesson
There are three types of commands
Imperative
2nd person (affirmative commands only)
E.g. “Eat your food.”
Form: similar to 2nd person imperfect, except...
qal, piel – ת form prefix is dropped
hiphil, niphal, and hithpael – ת form prefix is replaced by a ה
Cohortative
1st person
E.g. “Let us eat our food.”
Form: identical to imperfect, though at times with an a-class vowel + ה added to the end
Jussive
3rd person
E.g. “Let him eat his food.”
2nd person (commands negated with אַל only)
E.g. “Don’t eat your food.”
Form: identical to the imperfect
