Given that God is our Lord, this is a huge feat to now be able to read in Hebrew what he commands!

What we learned this lesson

  1. There are three types of commands
  2. Imperative
  3. 2nd person (affirmative commands only)
  4. E.g. “Eat your food.”
  5. Form: similar to 2nd person imperfect, except...
  6. qal, piel – ת form prefix is dropped
  7. hiphil, niphal, and hithpael – ת form prefix is replaced by a ה
  8. Cohortative
  9. 1st person
  10. E.g. “Let us eat our food.”
  11. Form: identical to imperfect, though at times with an a-class vowel + ה added to the end
  12. Jussive
  13. 3rd person
  14. E.g. “Let him eat his food.”
  15. 2nd person (commands negated with אַל only)
