Lesson 4 | Types of Offline Clauses

Practice

Now it’s your turn to indent offline clauses and label them!

How to Add Labels to a Text Hierarchy

Unless an offline clause is simply marking the beginning of a new paragraph, you need to label it. Here's how:
  1. Make sure you're in Editing mode by turning the Editing toggle on at the top right corner.
  2. Go to the Edit tab in the floating box.
  3. Click on the empty grey box to the right of an offline clause, located in the "Mine" column on the right.
  4. Type your label and click "Done."

Your Turn

No translating necessary. We’ve provided a passage module underneath the Phrasing module so you can check the meaning of words you don’t know.

Instructions

  1. Use the cheat sheet to highlight the aspect/mood of all verbs. Use the first five colors for the first five aspects/moods on the cheat sheet, along with the grey, bright blue, and purple for participles, infinitives, and imperatives respectively.
  2. Divide up the text into verbal units, using the cantillation marks as a guide.
  3. Indent offline clauses appropriately.
  4. Label the category of each offline clause in the “Mine” column.
  5. Background
  6. Supplemental
  7. Direct speech
  8. Dramatic
  9. Negated clarification
  10. [Something else] (That is, if you get stuck because none of the labels fit, feel free to make one up!)

Markup, divide, indent, and label the text.
