Lesson 5 | Verbs—commands and infinitives
Assignment 5: Grammar Highlighting
Highlight and underline the verbs according to their stem and aspect.
For this assignment, we will be using a Biblical Hebrew translation of the New Testament (DHNT). The reason for doing so and not using a passage from the Hebrew Bible is so that you will not be tempted to use Bible software to cheat and check the parsings. There is no parsing data available for the DHNT!
** Note: The Markup button must be depressed to style the verbs.
For each verb (with the exception of participles, which we have yet to learn), do the following:
Click the word.
Select the “highlight” tab from the palette, and choose the appropriate color (see below).
Select the “underline,” “dashed” or “zigzag” tab from the palette (see below), and change the color to black.
Click the “done” button from the palette.
Stem
qal = underline
piel = dashed
niphal = dotted (under the dashed tab)
hitpael = zigzag
Aspect
perfect = yellow
sequential-perfect = bright yellow
imperfect = blue
sequential-imperfect = bright blue
infinitive = red
imperative = green
cohortative = orange
jussive = gray
The first one has been done for you.
Mark up each verb according to the instructions.
