Lesson 1 | Read Well
About This Course
Students of the Bible have been taking pen in hand to underline the text of Scripture and add notes to the margins of their Bibles for generations. Adding markups and notes is an effective way to slow down your reading in order to carefully observe what the text says and meditate on its meaning and implications for your life.
This course will equip you in specific strategies for marking up the text of Scripture using Biblearc’s Markup tool and seven distinct “lenses” to help you sharpen your focus as you read. The seven lenses are:
Attention-Getters (lesson 2)
Questions (lesson 3)
Topics (lesson 4)
Commands+ (lessons 5–7)
Context (lesson 8)
Transitions (lesson 9)
Theology (lesson 10)
Our aim is to increase the joy of personal discovery as you see more details and ask better questions of the text.
Students completing this course will…
Be proficient with the full palette of tools in Biblearc’s Markup module
Gain experience with markup strategies via the seven lenses
Grow in the skill of making sharp observations and asking probing questions
Bring all these skills together in a final project that culminates in a written devotional
