Lesson 9 | Combining Summaries

Assignment: 2Co 4:16–5:11

Now it's time to put all the pieces together, proposing, testing, and proving our interpretation of a passage.
“Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts.”¹

Instructions:

This assignment starts in the same place as the last, except without a paraphrase given its length.
Now it’s your turn to:
  1. Examine the brackets/relationships of the completed pieces.
  2. Place a dot note on the relationship label (or star) representing the primary point of each piece and change the color of each dot note to match the relationship.
  3. Write sub-point summaries for each piece.
  4. Combine summaries in new dot notes and complete the bracket as taught in this lesson, minimizing lower-level dot notes as you do.
Note: You need not write a summary for the final bracket, as we will learn the art of main point summaries in the next lesson.

Complete the bracket by writing dot note summaries at every level.

Log in / create an account to enroll or continue where you left off.
When you are finished, continue to the next step and submit the lesson. After you do so, the instructor's work will be available for you to review while you wait for your coach to give you feedback (typically within 3-5 days).
