Lesson 8 | Digging Deeper into Verbal Phrases, Part 2
True North
In Psalm 42, the sons of Korah testified to their thirst for fellowship with Yahweh:
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
—Psalm 42:1-2
As you phrase passage after passage in your homework, and as you hear God’s Word read and proclaimed at church, what is the testimony of your heart?
Tony Reinke uses the metaphor of magnetism to describe a thirst for God:
A small piece of steel, when magnetized, will forever point north. So too the soul, when God has touched it, will orient toward Christ. This is the first evidence of the sovereign initiative of God acting on the soul, giving the soul a newborn instinct toward the beauty of Christ.
—The Joy Project, Kindle ed., loc. 936
May God use Phrasing as his external means to attract your soul to the glories of Christ, the True North of all believing hearts!
