Lesson 10: Putting It All Together
Assignment
This assignment is three things: The culmination of what you’ve learned in this course, a dry run for the assessment (for which you’ll be assigned one of the five horizons), and the first step for you in taking what you’ve learned in this course and using it in your life.
So take out your cheat sheet as you study Haggai 2:1-9, using each of the Five Horizons. You won't need to study each horizon fully for this passage, just like you normally won't do that when using the Five Horizons in your personal Bible study after this course is over. But we hope this course has taught you the basics of each horizon! Therefore, use your judgment and focus on one aspect of each horizon that helps you understand the passage.
Here are three pieces to include in your answer for each horizon:
Note the aspect of this horizon you’re going to write about/work on.
Include one quotation from a relevant resource in your Five Horizons Bibliography.
Do the work and explain how it helped you.
For example, for the Covenantal Horizon below, you could begin by writing, “I’m going to ask the Thematic Question, on the theme of The End. I looked at Michael Stead's commentary on Haggai and found this quotation: ‘Like Haggai’s generation, we too need to persevere in hope, waiting for the day when the glory of Christ’s kingdom will be fully manifest.’ Here’s how the quotation helped me....“
Here, again, are the cheat sheet and Annotated Bibliography for your reference:
The Five Horizons Cheat SheetpdfThis cheat sheet summarizes each horizon: its goal, and the steps required to study it (e.g. the microscope and telescope questions).
The First Step of Bible Study
As we’ve learned, before you explore the Five Horizons, it is important to study the passage on your own. We’ve provided a spot here for you to do so, to prepare you for the following questions.
