OT Connections - A Student Example
Daniel's dot note exemplifies the questions and observations we should ask as we bracket the text. A completed bracket ought not to be the end of our study! Instead, the careful reading that bracketing calls for ought to provoke further questions and observations as we wrestle with what the text means.
Note especially how Daniel calls us to dive deeper into the OT connections within this text. He considers how the OT background illuminates the meaning of Zechariah's prophetic words. He also considers what Zechariah's prophetic praise reveals about the themes of covenant, promise, kingdom, forgiveness of sins, etc. in the OT. Finally, he faithfully unpacks how these OT promises and themes culminate in our Lord Jesus as set forth by Zechariah's prophetic praise.
