Lesson 3 | Support by Distinct Statement

Lesson Objectives

Buildings, plants, bridges, and emotions all have one thing in common—they need support from something independent of themselves. Buildings have foundations, plants have roots, bridges have arches, and emotions have encouragement. In the same way, ideas require distinct support. Conclusions have reasons, intentions have actions, and causes have effects. The Bible is not comprised of independent statements dictating to us what is true; its words unfold with an intricate support structure—one idea building upon another until it arrives at a pinnacle.
In the last lesson, we saw one kind of support structure in restatement relationships. In this one, we will focus on the kind of support that distinct statements have to offer each other.

Objectives

  1. To recognize the seven distinct statement relationships
  2. To distinguish two sets of distinct statement relationships that contain overlapping ideas
