This is your last assignment in Hebrew I! You’ve come a long way since Lesson 1, and now is the time to practice everything you’ve learned by translating a passage more on your own than ever before. You can do it!
Same instructions as in the practice...
Instructions
Circle each non-prefix conjunction in black (i.e. all except the ו prefix conjunction).
Do so by highlighting it, then choosing the circle option and black circle in the pop-up box that appears.
Translate the text using the helps under each verse. Remember...
Translate each word literally; don’t try to smooth things out.
If the word has more than one gloss in your vocab sheet, try to choose the best translation in context.
The כִּי in verse 16 is introducing the content of נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי, revealing what God has sworn. Choose your translation accordingly. (But then יַעַן interrupts the giving of the content with the cause of God's making this promise. The content is then given after another occurrence of כִּי at the beginning of verse 17.)
יַעַן — “because”
אֲשֶׁר — Doesn’t need to be translated here.
עָשִׂיתָ — “you did”
הַדָּבָר — Translate this differently than in your vocab.
בָרֵךְ אֲבָרֶכְךָ — These words go together to form one single idea that emphasizes the sureness of the verb: “I will surely bless you.” (You’ll learn more about this construction in Hebrew III.)
עֵקֶב — Translate this together with אֲשֶׁר as the English conjunction “because.”
שָׁמַעְתָּ בְּ — “you obeyed”
קוֹל — “voice”
When you are finished, continue through the next two steps and submit the lesson. After you do so, the instructor’s work will be available for you to review while you wait for your coach to give you feedback (typically within 3-5 days).
