Lesson 1: Laying the Foundation

Course Trail Map

Okay—we already set the lesson objectives before you, but what about the course as a whole?

Lesson Breakdown

Lessons 1–3 focus on the big-picture view of interpretation, laying out a clear picture of where we are going and why this route.
Lessons 4–7 focus on specific segments of the interpretive journey, offering more detailed guides for each stage.
Lesson 8–9 focus on the end goal of interpretation: bringing Scripture to bear on all of life.
Lesson 10 concludes with a survey of interpretation tools—helpful gear to have in your pack for the journey.

Workload Expectations

Throughout the course, the work that you submit will be a mix of questions within the lesson steps and the assignment at the end of each lesson. This means that for those lessons that have substantial work within the lesson steps, the assignment itself will be a lighter load. Most students find that Lessons 1–3 take two to three hours to complete and Lessons 4–10 take three to four hours to complete.
