When you first looked at this photo, what first captured your attention? The waterfall? The sharp reflections on the lake? The mountain cliffs? The bare tree near the middle? The log in the foreground? One of a thousand other elements?
Let your eyes linger on that feature for a few moments. What further details can you observe about it? What other elements are related in some way (by color, light, topography, distance, etc)?
What questions come to mind? What direction is the sunlight coming from? Where exactly is the edge of the water? Where in the world is this place?!¹
This course aims to help you carefully observe (and record) all that can be discover in a text. And, as with the picture above, it makes sense to begin by examining the details of those things that first capture your attention. Thus, the first study lens is Attention Getters.
