Lesson 4 | Grammatical Logic

Encouragement & Review

Let’s review, but no pressure—perfection is not expected until lesson 9 or 10! 😉

What we learned this lesson...

  1. Divide a prepositional phrase only when it can be paraphrased with a verb and a clear conjunction.
  2. Paraphrase grammatical markers with a verb and clear conjunction whenever possible.
  3. Relative clauses often provide a key Ground, Result, or something else.
  4. Let other grammatical markers influence your paraphrase, such as:
  5. The tense of a verb
  6. The voice of a verb
  7. Rhetorical questions
  8. To test out the logic of a rhetorical question, restate it as a statement in the paraphrase.
  9. Don't get stumped! …by leaving gaps in your logic.
