Lesson 1 | The First Pass: Divide

Demonstration: Zooming in on the First Pass

At last, it’s time to zoom in on the first pass! The goal of the following video is to help you understand in detail how to do the First Pass.
Before we move on, I want to emphasize one point about the First Pass from the video above: it is important to keep subjects and verbs together. In 16c in the passage above, I extracted "in him" from between the subject "whoever" and its verb "should not perish." Verbs and their direct objects must also be kept together.
Summary: Both subjects and verbs, as well as verbs and direct objects, must be kept together on the same line. Do not divide them into different lines.
At times, this will require you to extract phrases from in between subjects and verbs, or verbs and direct objects. Keep all that in mind for Assignment #1, and for the rest of the assignments in this course.
