Lesson 3 | The Third Pass: Arrows

God Used Grammar

You’re halfway done learning the Five Passes of Phrasing now! Well done! You’ve put in a lot of hard work, and it will pay off, especially as we get into the Fourth and Fifth Passes.
Before you do your next assignment, I want to remind you that grammar is important and that understanding the grammar of God’s book is important. Why? Because God gave us a book written in human language, and it behooves us to understand that language. Why? Because it is the grammar, those little yet vital details, that allows us to better know him and accurately live out and teach His Word.
The main reason we need to use appropriate exegetical methods stems from the fact that God’s revelation, though timeless, remains firmly rooted in human history and language. —George H. Guthrie and J. Scott Duvall, Biblical Greek Exegesis: A Graded Approach to Learning Intermediate and Advanced Greek, 105
So if we want to accurately understand, obey, and teach God’s written Word, we must first understand its grammar. If God thought it was important, how could we ignore it?
