Suggested Family Activities
Here are some activities to consider for your family in connection to Zechariah’s prophecy:
A day of silent games to think about Zechariah being mute for 9+ months.
The classic “silent game” seeing who can go the longest without talking or laughing.
A game of charades in which you do your best to tell others a story from your life (which they don’t already know) without talking, just as Zechariah tried to tell everyone of meeting Gabriel in the temple.
Play a game called “silence to praise.” Just as the first things Zechariah said after he could speak again were praises and prophecy, sit together silently while each considers about what he/she could say to praise God in a thoughtful and meaningful way. When someone is ready, that person can speak his/her words of praise, and then must again be silent until everyone else has taken their turn.
Go watch the sunrise with your family, reading Luke 1:76-79 just as the sun begins to come up.
